September 18, 2010

Free for children, Just $5 for Adults!

...
Join CCCADI and Wunmi, fashionista and Afro Fusion maven extraordinaire, for two dance workshops. First explore JuJu, a type of traditional Yoruba dance seasoned with a special brand of fluidity and isolation that could only come from the depths of a Naija soul! Then step into the one of a kind world of Wunmidance where movement styles from House music, Sabar, Afrobeat and YOU converge. Foly from Asiko will be on the talking drums with Kunle on percussion.

2:00pm JuJu Dance
3:30pm Wunmi Dance

To RSVP or for more information, email education (at) cccadi (dot) org

About WUNMI:
The Inimitable Queen of Afro Dance fusion with her exhilarating vocals can be heard on today's hottest underground Afro dance tracks from the classic MAW Expensive to her amazing collaboration with Bugz in the Attic rework of Fela Anikulapo kuti's "Zombie" on the tribute album Red Hot and Riot.

Wunmi connects the dots between her London style,Lagos culture and New York Energy. Following the rave review for her first solo album. 2010 will see the release of her follow up album. Her stage shows are not to be missed.

Foly Michael Kolade:
Foly Micheal Kolade is a master Talking Drummer, hails from Oshogbo, Nigeria. The cultural center of Yoruba arts and culture. Soon after arriving in NY, Foly met and joined Wunmi's Band. His invaluable knowledge of traditional Yoruba rhythms helped to further define Wunmi's blend of Afro Fusion. Foly also leads a 12 piece original Afrobeat orchestra called Asiko. His first album with his band Asiko titled “You strong but you wrong” speaks candidly to the lack of transparency and misuse of power by those in it and is still enjoying very strong airplay in Nigeria, France and Italy. The Talent of FOly has not gone unrecognized by the entertainment industry and fans in general. Asiko got a nod as the best Afrobeat band in 2006 at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards and also the year’s best Afrobeat band at the Nigerian American Community Association (NADA) Awards.

About Kunle Adeniyi Adegeye
Kunle Adeniyi Adegeye born and raised in Nigeria. Son of he famous Juju Musicianfrom Lagos King Sunny Ade. On his arrival to New York he immersed himself in the drum and dance world. His natural gift for playing percussion soon brought him to the attention of the music industry. Playing with grammy award winners Wyclef Jean and Lauren Hill. Kunle became a regular member of Kofo the Wonderman and Asiko. Kunle started playing with Wunnmi aka Ms Olaiya in 1998. He continues to tour with her.

Hi Everyone,

I need your help I am taking part in a contest/competition : The Simple ® Shoes Road to Reeperbahn 2010 Competition. The 50 bands with the most downloads will move on to be reviewed by a panel of judges from Simple Shoes and the Reeperbahn Festival. The ten resulting finalists will get Simple shoes and a top secret mission to create a video for fans to vote on. The band whose video receives the most votes will play at Reeperbahn in front of 15,000 festival goers and 3600 EUR to get there. Pretty cool, right?

So please help me by going to Simple Shoes Website

and download your free song "TALK TALK TALK" from WUNMI and send as many people as you can to the same page to download this track for free. Post it on your facebook, myspace, twitter etc etc...

Please help me spread the word.

Thanks,

Wunmi

March, 2010

Dear Friends, fans and supporters,

Oh Yes we did it!...

Thank you all again from the bottom of my heart for making my project a success.

BECAUSE OF YOUR GENEROUS PLEDGES ......I am now be able to book my studio time, confirm musicians and yes..... sit down and begin writing....

Already KickStarter and Amazon have been collecting and processing your pledges. You all have been wikkid in following through! BLESS YOU ALL!

My main goal for the next 2 months is to focus and work diligently on creating this album....I will do my very best to post updates as the album progresses via kickstarter, Face book, myspace and my website. As the album gets closer to completion.... I will be preparing packages for each of you based on your contribution. I ask in advance for your patience on this.

I will do my very best to be in contact with you throughout the process and make sure you get everything that comes with your pledge. I will make sure before the final artwork is submitted that I have everyone's names listed correctly in the booklet as they desire. Once everything is done and we get the CD's back from the manufacturing plant we will start mailing out the packages along with all the other goodies!

At the beginning of this project I said that as well as doing volunteering work while in Ghana ....if we achieved our $15,500 goal I would donate all of the profit from my next show In Ghana to Doctors without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). I absolutely plan to stay true to this. I will keep you posted on when and where this show will take place.

A powerful wind of change is blowing through the music industry and for many independent artist like myself our fans and supporter are the key to our success.......

Having the money to make a new album is Truly a blessings, and I'm excited to make it and will do my very best to make you all very proud.

Back in Nov 2009 i made a wish and 3 months later you all made my wish come true... once again, thank you all for being a part of this. IT IS A BEAUTIFUL gift you all have given me.

Blessings always,

Wunmi
