For an 11:30 pm performance at Joe’s Pub recently, afro-beat singer Wunmi blurred the line, if only slightly, as to whether her performance should have been billed as purely music or not. She says it herself, “I’m a dance girl, that’s the whole thing...”
In classic Wunmi style, backed by her seven-piece band plus vocalist Christalyn Wright, she enters from the audience in terribly high heels, fishnet stockings, a white, sequenced two-piece skirt outfit and a wonderfully outrageous afro. there is no time for pleasantries, and though it’s hard to hear her at first over the rise from the crowd, she is here…
